FEM BELLING – CHAPEL SUMMER SESSIONS (7 JAN)
CHAPEL OFF CHAPEL is proud to present the return of the Chapel Summer Sessions. Intimate and live in the iconic Chapel Theatre.
Kicking off the series is Fem Belling, international Jazz Chanteuse. A long time performer at Chapel Off Chapel and one of Australia’s most in demand musicians, she brings her intimate Summer Swing Soiree.
An evening of vintage music channelling the heady days of summer, swing and sipping Pimms. Backed by some of Melbourne’s finest jazz musicians – with a few surprise guests thrown in.
The jazz world hums with ubiquitous young singers revisiting the great American songbook. Then one comes along with an actor’s stagecraft, a musician’s ear and a class of her own. Fem shot to international attention when she turned all 4 chairs on ‘The Voice 2015’ with Ricky Martin, Jessie J & Delta Goodrem all fighting for the chance to mentor her. Jessie J won out, saying she has been “waiting for someone like this”.
Fem Belling is an award winning West End leading lady (having played lead roles on the West End in shows such as Hairspray, Fame, Cats). She is a swinging master force on old repertory, bringing ideas from all angles to the familiar art of standard’s-singing and has a spectacular breadth of range and gutsy scat vocabulary.
With a sophisticated palate embracing unexpected genres, Fem has an energetic appetite for braiding musical styles. This award winning songstress is a rising star in the international jazz world and has been selling out festivals and venues around the globe.
With her new album NOW THEN imminent release (a collaboration with John Foreman), this will be a unique opportunity to see her in an intimate theatrical space before she embarks on her promotional world tour as well as appearing at major festivals.
