REEFER MADNESS: THE MUSICAL (24 NOV-4 DEC)
CULT-CLASSIC MUSICAL arrives in Melbourne for TWO WEEKS ONLY!
Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence. Reefer Madness premiered in 1999 in Los Angeles; the original production received five Ovation Awards and seven Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards before transferring to Off-Broadway. The 2005 Movie Musical received an Emmy for ‘Outstanding Music & Lyrics’. Reefer Madness was composed by Dan Studney and Kevin Murphy (Heathers).
Reefer Madness will be directed by Stephen Wheat (Avenue Q, Pippin) with Musical Direction by David Wisken (CROSSxROADS, Avenue Q) and Choreography by Yvette Lee (In The Heights, Moonshadow). The musical will be produced by RL Productions (CROSSxROADS, DOUBT: A Parable).
Cast: Jared Bryan, Rosa McCarty, Ben Adams, Grace O’Donnell Clancy, Ella Burns, Stephen McDowell, Priscilla Stavrou, Ed Deganos, Seth Drury, Ashlee Noble, Daniel Ridolfi, Tess Branchflower & Alex Thompson
