She Swallowed that Lie

Performance & Visual Art Exhibition

This unique new Australian theatre production is created and performed in collaboration with women who have lived prison experience, and marginalised young people from regional Victoria. The accompanying art exhibition showcases extraordinary works from women currently in Victorian prisons and retrospective works dating back to 2000.

Eight gutsy women weave a story from inside prison to life afterwards adding a dash of humour and lashings of heart and song… in She Swallowed that Lie. At just 18, Charlie and Baylee have grown up way too fast and seen way too much for ones so young. They are heading for a fall… A motley bunch of ‘been there, done that’s’ rally around them. Can they hold them long enough to avoid the system? Can the youngsters even dare to believe that one day they might, just might have real choice in their lives?

She Swallowed that Lie speaks to the lies that sit in us all, because if nothing changes… nothing changes…

‘It’s one big – farken fabulous – story with all our individual stories woven into it’
‘You walk a mile in our shoes for 80-minutes and enjoy every minute’
