From writer/performer Cassie Hamilton, A Transgender Woman on the Internet, Crying is a hyper-pop rave war that colourfully collides love, identity, furries and the transformative power of the trans community.
Avis O’Hara (@theDIYDoll) is the most fabulous and famous trans influencer on the internet. Cutting-edge, left-tube vlogger Corrin Verbeck has had enough. Determined to expose Avis as a comphet, bio-essentialist, TERF-lite traitor, Corrin pretends to befriend her – but the plan backfires spectacularly.
What ensues is all-out transgender cyber warfare as two trans femmes battle to uncover the person behind the internet discourse. But in the chaotic, nuance-free world of the internet, can love possibly triumph over heartbreak, rage and worst of all… crying?
Following its acclaimed success at the 2024 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Cassie’s electric performance at Home Grown, and her recognition as an APRA Professional Development Award finalist, this new work takes the next step in its journey.
Featuring a powerhouse cast of five trans performers, A Transgender Woman on the Internet, Crying comes to life in concert, delivering the full-throttle impact of its music and story in an electrifying, stripped-back format. Led by writer-performer Cassie Hamilton alongside an extraordinary cast (to be announced), this bold, heart-pounding hyper-pop spectacle is set to thrill Melbourne audiences.
Don’t miss this fierce, funny and poignant exploration of identity, community and the internet’s rollercoaster of emotions.
A Transgender Woman on the Internet, Crying: In Concert is a development piece supported by Home Grown Australia.
