Stonnington Jazz Festival 2018

Starring Nkechi Anele, Mama Alto, Tom Barton, Hannah Cameron, Georgie Darvidis and The Surface Project.

‘Björk is a restlessly experimental, tremendous creative force’ – The New Yorker

The music of Björk defies categorisation. Her thirty-year career has produced a catalogue of works that cement her as an experimental creative force and one of the most important artists of the last century.

Enter The Surface Project, Melbourne’s own emerging contemporary jazz collective.  In a Stonnington Jazz premiere, the ensemble will re-work, re-imagine and re-model pieces from Iceland’s most famous exports’ inimitable repertoire; featuring special guests: cabaret chanteuse Mama Alto; soul powerhouse Nkechi Anele (Saskwatch); electronic artists Tom Barton; vocal chameleon Georgie Darvidis (Edie Centric) and folk singer-songwriter Hannah Cameron.  Taking cue from the Icelander’s extensive visual collaborations, Fabian Acuña creates a visual score projected behind the artists to paint an optic representation of the music.
