This inspired Festival double bill brings together two bold and ambitious acts at the forefront of Sydney’s thriving jazz scene.
Empty Voices, by ARIA-nominated composer and tar (Iranian lute) virtuoso Hamed Sadeghi, presents a spellbinding mix of classical and contemporary music traditions of both East and West. The multi-generational ensemble led by Sadeghi and featuring renowned Australian jazz figures Sandy Evans, Paul Cutlan and Lloyd Swanton, offers a unique and dazzling dialogue between a plucked section (tar, percussion, double bass) and a woodwind/brass section.
Joining them on this double bill is 2022 Freedman Jazz Fellow Tom Avgenicos. Featuring a string quartet alongside Avgenicos’ jazz quartet Delay 45, Ghosts Between Streams presents a tapestry of chamber music, jazz and electronics woven together, taking audiences on a gripping journey brimming with emotional power and resonance.
