Set in 1895 when Mark Twain lectured in Australia, Huckleberry: A Musical Adventure is a re-imagining of Twain’s masterpiece for the 21st Century and turns gender and racial stereotypes on their head. Four actors create six roles and sing fourteen original songs in Chris Wallace’s version of Twain’s classic. Women play both Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer in this harsh criticism of racism. The message is clear but the delivery is sweet. If you don’t know this literary gem, this is a great way to introduce yourself. If you do know it, you’ll be charmed by this version of it.
Book, Music and Lyrics by Chris Wallace.
