Stonnington Jazz Festival 2018
Emma Donovan & The Putbacks + The Do Yo Thangs + DJ Lyndelle Wilkinson (PBS)
Acclaimed vocalist Emma Donovan and Melbourne rhythm combo The Putbacks, bring their soulful sound southside. Their hard-hitting and heartfelt soul songs telling stories of grief, struggle and redemption are moving and poetic. Winners of the Music Victoria Best Soul, R’n’B and Gospel Album, their uniquely Australian sound is gritty, whilst simultaneously classic and contemporary.
Their Hope Street Recordings label mates, The Do Yo Thangs, open the show with their neo-soul jazz-esque tones. Led by vocalists Audrey Powne and Hugh Rabinovici the six-piece band are Melbourne’s alternative R’n’B darlings. An infectious blend of “jazz elements, soul nods and glitchy synths with heavenly vocals on top” (The Music, AU), hear songs from their upcoming debut album Mind Full and favourites from their much loved EP One Plus One.
