Stonnington Jazz Festival 2018
Completing the trilogy, The Shaolin Afronauts deliver their final Mad Max Jazz opus with a visit to the Thunderdome. Experience Mad Max like never before in this sweeping event that fuses George Miller’s astounding imagination of a post-apocalyptic world with the wild jazz fusion sound of the Afronauts.
In what is considered one of the greatest threequels of all time, Beyond Thunderdome transports us fifteen years ahead of where we left the Roadwarrrior, Max Rockatansky, at Stonnington Jazz 2017. Mad Max (Mel Gibson), our anti-hero, exiled to the desert by the corrupt ruler of Bartertown (Tina Turner), becomes a gladiator, rebelling against corrupted authority with an army of nomadic orphans.
The Adelaide-based ARIA-nominated ensemble that is The Shaolin Afronauts, create a soundscape that crashes afro-beat, prog rock and free jazz – distinctive and truly unique.
