On a sweltering Valentine’s Day in 1900, a group of schoolgirls from Appleyard College set out for a picnic at Hanging Rock. Amidst the beauty of the Australian wilderness, several of the girls vanish without a trace. As the community searches for answers, time itself seems to warp, and the boundaries between reality and myth begin to dissolve.

In this haunting stage presentation (adaptation by Tom Wright, based on Joan Lindsay’s novel) JMC Academy’s graduating actors conjure an entire world of mystery, memory, and obsession. Through storytelling, shifting characters, and evocative theatricality, the production explores how a single inexplicable event can fracture a community and linger in the imagination for generations.

Both eerie and hypnotic, Picnic at Hanging Rock asks: when something disappears without explanation, what fills the silence in the aftermath?
