In Conversation with Gary Bartz

ABC Jazz Series – Jazz Legends

  • Date 23 October

  • Times 6pm

Join GRAMMY-winning saxophonist and jazz luminary Gary Bartz for an intimate artist talk hosted by bassist, broadcaster and educator Eric Ajaye, as part of the ABC Jazz Series – Jazz Legends.

From his early work with Miles Davis and Art Blakey to his recent collaborations with Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) and Adrian Younge’s project Jazz Is Dead, Gary Bartz is a pioneering force in shaping the language of jazz improvisation.

For this special conversation, Bartz will be joined by his long-time creative partner, celebrated Australian pianist and composer Barney McAll – reflecting on their Melbourne International Jazz Festival performance and the power of cross-generational collaboration. With a plethora of stories from his six-decade musical journey, don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear directly from one of jazz’s most influential and radical thinkers.

Jazz Legends is a monthly series on ABC Jazz, spotlighting the stories and sounds of jazz’s most iconic artists, hosted by Eric Ajaye.
